Seven beach clubs stand on the transition from dune to beach at Dishoek, a spot that officially falls under the town of Koudekerke and belongs to the municipality of Veere. The village has around 225 permanent residents, but most of the houses are holiday homes that are only lived in during the season.

Dishoek lies between Vlissingen and Zoutelande on the Zeeland coast, close to the point where the Westerschelde flows into the North Sea. On the landward side, the beach is bordered by a high row of dunes, with paths leading down from the car parks. The centre of Vlissingen is about 3.2 kilometres away, Zoutelande 5.8 kilometres and Breskens 7.4 kilometres.

The beach clubs serve a broad public, from walkers stopping for a morning coffee to guests who stay on for dinner in the evening. The offering ranges from brunch and lunch to dinner. The average rating of the beach clubs sits at 4.4 out of 5. The atmosphere is described as relaxed and lively at the same time, with somewhat more upmarket interiors in some places.

Thanks to the high dunes, the beach is relatively sheltered, and on clear days you look out over the ships sailing in and out of the Westerschelde. That location makes Dishoek suited both to a day by the sea and to a short stop during a walk along the dune paths towards Zoutelande or Vlissingen.

Dogs are welcome at several of the beach clubs, and the beach has clear rules by season, which are explained further below. For families with children there is space on the wide beach, and several beach clubs are set up for guests with young children. A number of locations offer space for a corporate outing, and a seaside wedding venue is available.

If you come by public transport, you travel as far as Vlissingen station, about 4.6 kilometres away, and continue from there by bus or bike. By car you reach Dishoek via the roads from Koudekerke and Vlissingen, after which you cover the final stretch across the dune car parks.

Great for

Families

The wide beach at Dishoek slopes gently down to the water and offers plenty of room to play, while the row of dunes provides shelter from the wind. Several beach clubs are set up for guests with children, and the brunch and lunch menu fits well with a day by the sea.

Bring your dog

Dogs are welcome at several of the beach clubs. The Dishoek beach follows the seasonal rules of the municipality of Veere, so your dog may run off the lead during off-peak hours and outside the bathing season. Check the exact times below under the beach zones.

Romantic dinner

Several beach clubs serve dinner and have somewhat more upmarket interiors. On clear days you look out over the shipping on the Westerschelde and the sunset over the sea while you eat.

Lunch by the sea

All seven beach clubs serve lunch, with an average rating of 4.4 out of 5. You can stop in after a walk along the dune paths or as a break during a day on the beach.

Corporate outing

A number of beach clubs in Dishoek offer space for a corporate outing. The seaside setting, with parking within walking distance, makes it easy to reach for a group.

Bad weather

The beach clubs have covered space where you can eat and look out over the sea even in rain or strong wind. When the weather is poorer, a walk along the sheltered dune paths is an alternative.

The high season runs from May to September, when the holiday homes in Dishoek are occupied and all the beach clubs are open. During those months the beach and the beach clubs are at their busiest, especially on warm days and during the school holidays.

Because Dishoek consists largely of holiday homes, how busy it gets is closely tied to the tourist season. Outside summer it is quieter and not all facilities are open.

In the early and late season, Dishoek is popular with walkers who follow the dune paths towards Zoutelande or Vlissingen and stop off at a beach club along the way. The average rating of 4.4 out of 5 applies across the whole year.

Bear in mind that opening hours and the offering differ from one beach club to the next, especially outside the bathing season. Before a low-season visit, check whether the beach club of your choice is open.
