Domburg has drawn bathing visitors since the nineteenth century, which gives it an older centre than many other Zeeland seaside resorts. In the summer months the beach and boulevard at Domburg are busy. The seven beach clubs run at full capacity then, and the car parks fill up early on warm days.
The shoulder seasons have a different character. In spring and autumn the beach is quieter and the dunes and woodland paths behind the village are appealing to walkers. A number of beach clubs stay open outside summer too.
Domburg has an older centre with shops and terraces, so there is plenty going on in the village even when the beach weather is poor. Throughout the year there are events, from markets to cultural activities.
If you want to avoid the crowds, it is best to come outside the school holidays or to stick to the early morning and late afternoon. The elevation of the dunes means you can find a quieter spot even on busy days, a little further from the main beach entrance.
Practical
The nearest railway station is Middelburg. From there you travel on by bus or take the bike; the route across Walcheren is good for cycling.

Bear in mind the wind on the Zeeland coast; a windbreak or a sheltered spot by the dunes is welcome on many days. The beach slopes gently, which is handy with children.
Combine a visit to the beach with a walk through the woods and dunes behind the village, or with a trip to Westkapelle, Oostkapelle or Zoutelande, all three within a few kilometres. The old centre of Domburg is a good place for a terrace or some shopping after the beach.

In Domburg, fixed rules from the municipality of Veere apply to dogs. During the bathing season, from 1 May to 15 September inclusive, dogs are not allowed on the main beach between 10.00 and 19.00. That ban applies to the stretch of beach from beach marker post 16.0 at access point 52 (Hoge Hill West) to access point 60 (Hoogduin).
Outside those hours and outside the bathing season, dogs are allowed on that stretch of beach, both on the lead and off. So if you want to bring your dog during the day, you are best off heading to the beach early in the morning or after 19.00.
On the other Veere beaches, dogs must be kept on a lead of no more than 1.50 metres between 10.00 and 19.00 during the bathing season. To be sure, check the current rules with the municipality of Veere, as dates and times may change.
The beach at Domburg connects to the dunes and the woodland behind them, so you can easily combine walks along the beach with the paths through the dunes.
Horse riding on the beach
During the bathing season (1 May to 15 September inclusive), horses are prohibited on all beaches in the municipality of Veere between 10.00 and 19.00. Outside that window and outside the bathing season, horse-riding is permitted. There is an obligation to clear up manure; a bridleway network runs across the beaches.
Naturism
This resort has a designated or marked nudist beach. The designated zone is located near beach posts 16.4-16.9.
