Vrouwenpolder

At the northern tip of Walcheren, where the Veerse Gatdam connects the island to Noord-Beveland, lies the beach of Vrouwenpolder. The village has just over a thousand inhabitants and belongs to the municipality of Veere.
The North Sea beach is wide and slopes gently. Partly because of that width, it stays relatively quiet in summer compared with busier coastal towns further along. Six beach clubs stand along the beach, with an average rating of 4.3 out of 5.
The offering ranges from breakfast and brunch to lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is described as relaxed and lively, with a slightly more upmarket feel in a few places. This makes the beach clubs suitable for both a quick coffee and a leisurely meal by the sea.
Right behind the dunes lies the Oranjezon nature reserve, a varied area of dunes, woodland and water. It is well suited to a walk or cycle ride before or after a day on the beach. The combination of beach and nature makes Vrouwenpolder appealing for anyone who wants more than just lying in the sand.
Vrouwenpolder can be reached by car via the N57, the road that connects Middelburg with Europoort. Its position on the edge of Walcheren means that Noord-Beveland is also quickly reachable across the dam. Middelburg railway station is about ten kilometres away.
Several other seaside resorts lie within a short distance. Oostkapelle is about 4.3 kilometres away, Kamperland 5.7 kilometres and Domburg roughly 9 kilometres. If you are planning a multi-day stay, you can easily combine different beaches and village centres.
Dogs are welcome at several beach clubs, and clear rules also apply on the beach depending on the season. For families, the wide beach offers plenty of room to play, and food and drink are usually within easy reach at the beach clubs. This makes Vrouwenpolder a beach that offers both peace and amenities.
Great for
The wide North Sea beach slopes gently and offers plenty of room to play. The six beach clubs put food and drink within easy reach, with options ranging from breakfast to lunch. Thanks to the relative calm in summer, there is space without it becoming too busy.
Dogs are welcome at several beach clubs. On the beach itself, fixed rules apply depending on the season and the beach section. Outside the bathing season, and early or late in the day, dogs may run off the lead, which makes the beach well suited to a walk with the dog.
Some of the beach clubs have a more upmarket feel and also serve dinner. At the northern tip of Walcheren, you look out over the North Sea while you eat. For a quiet evening by the sea, the beach is a good choice, helped by its rating of 4.3 out of 5.
The beach clubs offer lunch alongside breakfast and brunch. The wide beach and open setting make a stop on the terrace appealing. After lunch, the Oranjezon nature reserve behind the dunes is within walking distance for a stroll.
A corporate outing is possible here. The dinner options and the space on the beach offer room for a group. Its location on the N57 makes Vrouwenpolder easy to reach by car from Middelburg and the surrounding area.
When the weather is less kind, the beach clubs offer indoor space for a coffee or a meal. The Oranjezon nature reserve is also well suited to a walk or cycle ride under cloudy skies. Domburg and Middelburg are a short distance away for a trip away from the beach.
In high season, roughly from May to mid-September, the beach of Vrouwenpolder is at its busiest. Even so, thanks to the width of the beach, it stays relatively quiet compared with better-known coastal towns nearby.
During this period the beach clubs are fully open and serve everything from breakfast to dinner. The atmosphere is livelier then, with more visitors on the terraces and on the sand.
Outside the bathing season it becomes quieter and the beach mainly suits walkers and dog owners, who have more space at that time. The Oranjezon nature reserve behind the dunes stays accessible all year round.
If you want to avoid the crowds, your best bet is to come early in the morning or outside the summer months. For current opening hours and any events, it is wise to check with the beach clubs themselves beforehand, as the offering varies by season.
